I . . <br /> Police Chief Bolanos presented the staff report and described the Citizens Option For <br /> Public Safety (COPS) program enacted by the State legislature which provides <br /> ~ $167,970 to the Redwood City Police Department this year. Future allocations are <br /> uncertain. The funds may only be used for front line municipal police services and <br /> cannot be used to supplement nor supplant existing services. Chief Bolanos described <br /> staff's recommendation for use of the funds for a computer aided dispatch system. <br /> In response to Council questions, Police Captain Vermeer advised that currently the <br /> Police Department owns no laptop computers, and private laptops in use are not <br /> connected to police communications. <br /> Mayor Hartnett said staff recommendations would be considered by the Council <br /> Safety Committee and brought back to the full Council for review and final decision. <br /> 2.
