ANALYSIS
The park and adjacent street parking and sidewalks were necessarily closed during the
renovation and was expected to re-open for public use by July 2015. The Jardin de
Niños Park Renovation Project was successfully completed in accordance with the
plans and specifications for a total contract cost of $270,546.80. Change orders were
issued for the sum total of $16,026.80, which is 5.9% more than the awarded contract
amount. The majority of the change order amount was issued for additive alternates
such as grading and base rock installation for synthetic turf.

The contract allowed 90 calendar days for project completion and the project was
completed in 92 days. Jardin de Niños Park was substantially completed on May 12,
2015 and re-opened to the public on Saturday, May 16, 2015. A significant number of
residents attended re-opening of the park. The City’s Parks staff acknowledges the
contractor and the City’s Public Works Department staff for their great work to ensure
the park renovation and the re-opening event was well-executed and successful.

ALTERNATIVES
Council may choose not to accept the project, or authorize the release of bonds and
retention which would be contrary to the terms of the contract and prior Council action.

FISCAL IMPACT
Sufficient funding for the work of this construction contract has been previously
appropriated as Capital Projects Funds – Jardin de Niños Renovation Project,
Restroom Replacement Program, and the Playground Replacement Program.

ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW
The Council determined that this project is categorically exempt from the requirements
of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) Guidelines per Section 15302 and
Section 15332 when Council awarded the contract on September 8, 2014.

CHRISTOPHER BETH
DIRECTOR
PARKS, RECREATION AND COMMUNITY SERVICES

AARON AKNIN
INTERIM CITY MANAGER
6.2.A. - Page 2
