REPORTER'S TRANSCRIPT OF PROCEEDINGS TAKEN 5-24-04
developers who attempt to hedge the building code
and fire code process by building what's commonly
referred to as a 74 foot building.
They can build a building of six stories or
about that level and only require what is required
by code for less than the high-rise building.
So when you step into the high-rise
building environment, you pick up redundancies that
we don't have in other builds. Those fire safety
systems include on site water or - - or secondary
water supplies, fire pumps to ensure that we have
adequate pressure throughout the building, elevator
recall systems in connection with the alarm
I
systems, evacuation systems, protected stairwells,
other items like that to ensure that we can get in
and other folks can get out.
The workload for the fire department
happens in two ways,' though, if we have an actual
incident within the building, we have to move all
equipment manually, we can't rely on the elevator
systems, so it's very labor intensive for the fire
department to do that.
We've also conceptually worked with
Glenborough-Pauls on horizontal travel time, which
is a factor that's not normally considered.
UCCELLI & ASSOCIATES 170
(650) 952-0774
..-
