<br /> <br />Red Morton Community Park Sports Lighting Initial Study <br />City of Redwood City 66 June 2015 <br />4.16 TRANSPORTATION <br /> <br />The following discussion is based on a traffic and parking analysis completed for the proposed <br />project by Hexagon Transportation Consultants in May 2015. The traffic and parking analysis is <br />included as Appendix C of this Initial Study. <br /> <br />4.16.1 Existing Setting <br /> <br />4.16.1.1 Roadway Network <br /> <br />Regional and Direct Access <br /> <br />Red Morton Community Park is located in the center of a residential neighborhood with a grid <br />roadway system. Access to Mitchell Field is provided by Jefferson Avenue, Madison Avenue, <br />Roosevelt Avenue, Valota Road, St. Francis Street, Nevada Street, Myrtle Street, and King Street. A <br />brief description of each street is provided below. <br /> <br />Jefferson Avenue is an east-west arterial road that begins in the west from its connection with Farm <br />Hills Boulevard, extends east into downtown Redwood City, and terminates at its intersection with <br />Veterans Boulevard. Jefferson Avenue is four lanes wide within the project vicinity, and provides <br />access to Mitchell Field via its intersections with Valota Road, St. Francis Street, Nevada Street, <br />Hawes Street, and Myrtle Street. <br /> <br />Madison Avenue is an east-west residential street that begins west of the park at its terminus at <br />Alameda de las Pulgas and extends east to its terminus at El Camino Real. Madison Avenue is two <br />lanes wide within the project vicinity, and forms the northern boundary of Red Morton Community <br />Park. <br /> <br />Roosevelt Avenue is an east-west roadway that begins west of the park at its terminus at Foothill <br />Street and extends east to its terminus at El Camino Real. Roosevelt Avenue is two lanes wide within <br />the project vicinity, and forms the southern boundary of Red Morton Community Park. Roosevelt <br />Avenue provides access to Mitchell Field via its intersections with Valota Road and King Street. <br /> <br />Valota Road is a north-south residential street that begins north of the park at its terminus at <br />Jefferson Avenue and extends south to Woodside Road. Valota Road is two lanes wide within the <br />project vicinity, and forms the western boundary of Red Morton Community Park. <br /> <br />St. Francis Street is a north-south residential street that begins north of the park at its terminus at <br />Harding Avenue and extends south to the parking lot directly west of Mitchell Field. This parking lot <br />mainly serves the Veterans Memorial Senior Center. A one-way horseshoe-shaped loop around the <br />senior center is formed by St. Francis Street, Vera Avenue, and Nevada Street. <br /> <br />Nevada Street is a north-south residential street that begins at Jefferson Avenue and ends <br />approximately 600 feet south at the parking lot for the Veterans Memorial Senior Center. Nevada <br />Street is one-way between Madison Avenue and Vera Avenue, the block which is part of the one - <br />way loop around the senior center.
