19

impact, assuming that construction activities are conducted in accordance with the implementation
of construction best management practices. Redwood City General Plan Policy PS-13.6 requires all
construction operations to use available noise suppression devices and techniques to bring exterior
noise down to acceptable levels that are compatible with adjacent land uses. Policy PS -13.8
implements appropriate standard construction noise controls for all construction projects. Program
PS-63 enforces construction and maintenance noise regulations by requiring the following
measures:

 Limit construction activities to the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekdays, and 9:00
a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturdays, with no noise-generating construction on Sundays or
holidays.

 Control noise from construction workers’ radios to the point where they are not audible at
existing residences that border the project site.

 Equip all internal combustion engine-driven equipment with mufflers that are in good
condition and appropriate for the equipment.

 Utilize quiet models of air compressors and other stationary noise sources where technology
exists.

 Locate stationary noise-generating equipment as far as possible from sensitive receptors
when sensitive receptors adjoin or are near a construction project area.

 Prohibit unnecessary idling of internal combustion engines.

 Notify residents adjacent to the project site of the construction schedule in writing.

Implementation of the above measures would reduce construction noise levels emanating from the
site, limit construction hours, and minimize disruption and annoyance. With the implementation of
these measures, and recognizing that noise generated by constru ction activities would occur over a
temporary period, the temporary increase in ambient noise levels would be less-than-significant.

8.A. - Page 135
