REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br /> <br />September 28, 2015 <br />SUBJECT <br />Redwood City Education Foundation’s 2015 OktobeRun, October 24, 2015 <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Authorize the issuance of an annual Letter Permit for the Redwood City Education <br />Foundation’s “OktobeRun.” <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br />The Redwood City Education Foundation, hereafter “Foundation”, has held a half <br />marathon and 5 kilometer (5K) run in Redwood City annually in October since 2011. <br />This year the Foundation has applied to move the start/finish line to Bradford St. and <br />Main St. The Redwood City School District is located at 750 Bradford St. and the <br />Foundation is planning to utilize this facility on October 24, 2015 for race day events. <br /> <br />ANALYSIS <br />The Foundation’s desire to continue the tradition of an annual half marathon and 5K <br />run, known as the “Fun Run”, will continue to generate interest in the health and fitness <br />of Redwood City residents. The event is a fundraiser for the Redwood City Education <br />Foundation. The Foundation has been working since 1983 to advance and enrich <br />educational opportunities for the 9,200 students of the Redwood City School District. <br />It is anticipated that upwards of 1,500 runners will participate in the OktobeRun this <br />year. <br /> <br />The OktobeRun will start and finish at Bradford St and Main St. The Foundation will <br />have several wellness and health related booths on Bradford St before and after the <br />run. Since the run starts and ends in the Downtown area, the Foundation plans to <br />recommend the race participants patronize Redwood City businesses after the event. <br /> <br />On October 24th, 2015 at 7:30 a.m. the half marathon will start on Bradford St. at Main <br />St. and head westbound on Main St. to Marshall St. The runners will turn left on <br />Marshall St. and run southbound towards Maple St. At Maple St. they will turn east and <br />proceed across Veterans Blvd. to the end of Maple St. and then through Docktown <br />Marina, and over the Bridge to Nowhere. On the other side of the bridge, the contractor <br />for the hotel construction has given the race participants permission to turn right and run <br />through a corner of the construction site.
