Joe Steinfeld, 850 Main Street, asked Council to reconsider the Downtown Improvement
Plan which requires the removal of several trees, to conduct a hearing on this Plan, and to
notify the people who asked for another hearing on the trees issue. Mr. Steinfeld cited
excerpts from a letter written by Mr. Bruce Hagen of the California Department of
Forestry after his visit with the City Arborist and Mr. Steinfeld. Mr. Steinfeld asked that
the City consider alternatives to removing the subject trees, and establish a Citizen's Tree
Board to promote community involvement and to deal with urban forestry issues in the
future. Mr. Steinfeld asked for a meeting with the Peninsula Conflict Resolution Center
to resolve the tree issue. (II 0)
Mayor Gasparini reminded everyone that excerpts can be taken out of context, and
advised that the subject letter is a public document.
MEMO 2/14/95
MINUTE BOOK NO. 53
Page No. 059
-,..
