Mr. Orlick stated that the subject property had been designated for
park purposes, not for a school, and the property had a reversionary clause. Mr. Orlick
advised that if a school was built in Sandpiper Park it would negatively impact the
property values of the homes in Regatta, and he had yet to see acceptable statistics to
support the need for a school in the Sandpiper Park area in Redwood Shores. He advised
he knew the people in Regatta and there were extremely few children there, and he had
walked around the neighborhood and had not seen many children there either. Mr.
Orlick stated that the traffic resulting from the proposed school would be unacceptable,
and described the discussions he has had with the School Board and Director Griffiths
from Redwood City about traffic, setback mitigations, and lots of other mitigations. Mr.
Orlick expressed his concerns about additional uses of the school, community center and
park, fearing that lights may be installed some time in the future. Mr. Orlick repeated his
beliefs that property values would be negatively impacted in the Regatta Complex which
was populated by older people without little children, and he had yet to be convinced that
there was a need for a school in Sandpiper Park. Mr. Orlick wanted to continue his
comments but had already spoken well past the allotted three minutes per speaker.
Peter Hughes, 18 Admiralty Court, Redwood City, stated he believed this new schooV
community centerlpark was a deal made in heaven and was a wonderful addition to the
Redwood Shores neighborhood.
