Mayor Gasparini spoke to the Council's budget issues, goals and objectives, and reiterated the Council's policy to better communications with the City's boards, committees and commissions including presentation of their goals and objectives in September. City Manager Everett discussed the Vision Statement and its process, Council workshops and outside seminars. PUBLIC COMMENT Joe Steinfeld, 850 Main Street, expressed his concerns regarding the City and Redevelopment Agency incurring too much debt, the lack of complete information in the budget, and the need to cut costs. Don Saye, 2021 Broadway, expressed his concerns regarding the proliferation of shopping carts in the downtown area, and thanked the Public Works Services Department for trimming trees and washing downtown lights, and for their work after the 4th of July parade. Peter Hughes, 18 Admiralty Court, stated that the budget presentations so far had been very exciting, but he did not see a fire station for Redwood Shores in the 5 year C.I.P. program. Mr. Hughes said he understood that negotiations were ongoing with Menlo Park Fire District that could affect a station in Redwood Shores, but the budget was a reflection of Council policy and he wanted a commitment from the Council that this fire station would be built. Mayor Gasparini advised that Council was looking at how to establish this objective, negotiations were ongoing, and construction costs and operating costs were two separate issues. City Manager Everett advised that establishment of a fire facility in Redwood Shores was inadvertently left off Fire Chief Fink's list of objectives, and those long term budget objectives were to be re written to include this project. City Manager Everett announced that Don Warren, President of Redwood Shores, Inc. had advised that the land sought for the facility would be available to the City through 1996. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mayor Gasparini declared a recess for lunch at 12:38 P.M.
