<br /> Council Members discussed the request of the Youth and Family Assistance/OICW I <br /> proposal for a restaurant and training center for young people on Broadway. ' <br /> Richard Gordon, Director of YF A, and Sharon Williams, Executive Director of <br /> OICW, asked Council to add this program to the Redevelopment Agency Budget, <br /> and described the program for employment opportunities for 90 youths a year. In <br /> answer to Council questions, Mr. Gordon stated there was a mixed reaction to the <br /> proposed restaurant coming into an area with so many restaurants. <br /> PUBLIC COMMENT <br /> Jack Castle, 827 Mohican Way, Redwood City. spoke in favor of the YFAlOICW <br /> program. <br /> Don Saye, 2021 Broadway; Redwood City; also spoke in favor of the program and <br /> added that the downtown needed to have all its buildings utilized. <br /> --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <br /> Jack Greenalch, 111 Wellesley Crescent, Redwood City, Economic Development <br /> Coordinator from Canada College, asked the Council to add $50,000 to the <br /> Redevelopment Agency Budget for Canada College's Small Business Development <br /> Center located at Main and Marshall. Former Councilman Greenalch described the <br /> program and clarified that it was not ajob training program nor would it duplicate <br /> the services of the Chamber. Mr. Greenalch advised that this proposed Center was <br /> part of the overall mission of the College to respond to the needs of the community, <br /> and had the potential to become the regional center for small business growth. <br /> Council Members discussed the proposal and its advantages to Redwood City. <br /> MIS: LA BERGEIBUCHAN TO ADD $50,000 (OUT OF THE REDEVELOPMENT <br /> AGENCY'S GENERAL FUND) TO THE REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY BUDGET TO <br /> FUND CANADA COLLEGE'S SMALL BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT CENTER IN <br /> REDWOOD CITY, WITH ACCOMPANYING LANGUAGE TO INCLUDE HELPING <br /> SMALL BUSINESSES TO LOCATE IN REDWOOD CITY. <br /> MOTION CARRIED BY UNANIMOUS VOICE VOTE. <br /> MINUTE ORDER NO.
