PUBLIC COMMENT
Vice Mayor Hartnett called upon those speakers who had submitted speaker's cards.
Rod Shepard, 398 Walsh road, Atherton, from Cornish & Carey Commercial Properties,
described his company's efforts in bringing businesses to Redwood City, and spoke in favor of
the Pacific Shores Center development. Ellison, Chairman
and CEO of Oracle of Redwood City, stating his support of the Pacific Shores Center
development.
Dr. Ron Crates, Superintendent of Redwood City Elementary School District, asked the
Council to talk to the applicant about an opportunity to help schools in Redwood City,
especially in the area of developer's and impact fees.
Ruben Barrales, San Mateo County Supervisor, spoke as a resident, member of BCDC and
LAFCO, and as a Supervisor, supporting this project. Supervisor Barrales acknowledged the
concerns of the neighbors of the proposed development, but emphasized the high value jobs it
will bring. and encouraged all interested parties to use facilitation to help mitigate those
concerns and help the impacted businesses.
Vice Mayor Hartnett read a letter sent to the Council from Marcy Schultz, Business
Manager for the Building and Construction Trades Council of San Mateo County
supporting the Pacific Shores Center development as an exciting opportunity to provide an
attractive, community-oriented and well planned employment site. Ms. Schultz wrote that the
Trades Council was willing to work with all parties to insure the success of the project.
City Manager Everett, City Attorney Schricker and Planning Director Patterson described
the process, including many more hearings and lots more detail, and encouraged the Planning
Commissioners and Council to express their opinions on what should be done next.
Councilwoman Steinfeld stated it was a good project and it should go forward, even though
there are a lot of issues to be worked out.
Planning Commissioner Verdone advised that traffic was still an issue, and this development
would limit the land available to the Port for expansion.
lINUTE BOOK NO. 53
'age No. 268 Special Adjourned Council Meeting, Study Session Minutes
July 17, 1995
Page 5
