MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST <br /> A Councilwoman Steinfeld expressed her concerns that the public had not had sufficient <br /> input in the new City hall designation process, and asked that non-staff and non-committee <br /> directed alternatives and recommendations be considered. <br /> B. Councilwoman Howard presented an update on the Aqua Terra project and recognized <br /> Redwood City Fire Marshal Vella in the audience. Councilwoman Howard advised she <br /> had toured the sloughs with the Sheriff s Department, and reported that 30 sunken boats <br /> had been identified and scheduled for removal, and 900 cubic yards of debris will be <br /> removed over an eight week period. Councilwoman Howard identified the following <br /> agencies involved in the clean-up: Redwood City Fire Department, Redwood City Police <br /> Department, San Mateo County Sheriff s Department, California State Fish and Game, <br /> Bay Conservation and Development Commission, San Mateo County Planning <br /> Department, the Redwood City Port, the Pride and Beautification Committee, the Sequoia <br /> Yacht Club, BFI and more. Councilwoman Howard urged adoption of a City Ordinance to <br /> keep the waterways safe and clean after the conclusion of the Aqua Terra project. The <br /> County Public works Department will be hauling the debris to Ox Mountain and picking <br /> up the cost of from $6,000 to $8,000, which is a great contribution from the County. <br /> Councilwoman Howard thanked Redwood City Police Officer Harp for working with the <br /> businesses at the Port and getting them to participate in this project, including <br /> contributions to the Aqua Terra Account to cover unexpected costs. After the clean-up is <br /> through a marketing project will commence to tell people about the clean waterways they <br /> can visit and enjoy. <br /> C. Councilwoman La Berge announced that a large delegation of visitors from Redwood <br /> City's Sister City Zhuhai, China, would be in Redwood City the end of October, and they <br /> were bringing music and art to share with us. October 23 there will be opening <br /> ceremonies at the Art Center, 4:30 P.M., 2625 Broadway. October 24 there will be an <br /> open house at the Art Center at 10:00 AM.. There will be public performances, singers, <br /> dancers and magicians on October 27 at Canada College, 7:30 P.M., and October 28, at the <br /> Senior Center at 2:00 P.M., admission $10 for each performance. Councilwoman La <br /> Berge encouraged everyone to attend at least one of the events to learn about Zhuhai and <br /> the arts of China. <br /> Councilwoman La Berge invited everyone to attend the new Red Morton Center <br /> fundraiser to be held October 26, 1995, at the Redwood City Police Facilities. Tickets are <br /> $75. <br /> D.
