Acknowledging receipt of the Environmental Enhancement and Mitigation Program Grant <br /> in the amount of $65,200 from the California Transportation Commission for Redwood <br /> City Urban Forestry Replanting Project; and (505) <br /> B. Proclamation proclaiming Redwood City a Tree City USA for 1995; (207) <br /> REPORT: Public Works Services Department, September 18, 1995 <br /> Gordon Mann, Public Works Superintendent, advised Council that the City had been <br /> awarded a grant to plant 1,070 trees, 400 at Stulsaft Park and 670 in the downtown area <br /> and the neighborhoods. Superintendent Mann added that the grant was approved by the <br /> California Transportation Commission based on the benefit the City will receive from the <br /> alleviation and mitigation of carbon dioxide emissions related to increased use of the <br /> refurbished CalTrain and SamTrans stations. Superintendent Mann advised that on <br /> September 18, 1995, the City was notified it had received another grant, this one from the <br /> California Releaf group for $2,230 for 56 trees along the Redwood Shores Parkway. <br /> In response to Council questions, Superintendent Mann advised that the City would <br /> work with the Neighborhood Associations and individuals to locate the new trees in areas <br /> where people were willing to assume the responsibility of watering them, and he very <br /> much wanted to hear from people who were interested in the program. (701) <br /> MEMO 9/26/95 <br /> City Manager Everett described the highly competitive situation that existed for both <br /> grants and advised that Redwood City's inventory and urban forest commitment had been <br /> very highly rated. <br /> Vice Mayor Hartnett presented the proclamation congratulating Redwood City for being <br /> designated a Tree City USA for the 14th year in a row, to Superintendent Mann, who <br /> introduced David Soho from the California Forestry and Fire Protection, sponsors of the <br /> Tree City USA program. <br /> Mr. Soho presented a beautiful Tree City USA plaque from the California Forestry and <br /> Fire Protection, a huge Tree City USA button, and an impressive Tree City USA flag to <br /> Mayor Pro Tem Hartnett, and advised that these gifts were only awarded to the most active <br /> and proactive cities whose urban forestry programs warrant special recognition. <br /> ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <br /> C.
