ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
A. Jeanie Isaacs, 251 E Street, Redwood City, presented a letter to the Council and stated she
was a long time resident raising a family in Redwood City and enjoyed the many great
community programs in Redwood City. However, she was not pleased about the fact that
Redwood City schools did not have good reputations. Mrs. Isaacs cited a San Mateo
Times article of October 6, 1995, in which some Council candidates attending a Chamber
of Commerce forum were quoted as describing Redwood City schools as a disaster. She
also described the state and local funding problems. Mrs. Isaacs asked the Council
Members what they had done, as leaders in the community, to improve Redwood City
schools.
Mayor Gasparini and Councilwoman La Berge, Chairperson of the Council City/School
Liaison Committee, stated that youth and schools were one of the Council's top priorities
and they were glad to have the opportunity to share with Mrs. Isaacs what past and present
Councils and staff had done for schools in Redwood City. Councilwoman La Berge
advised she would provide the information on the Council's efforts to improve Redwood
City schools to Mrs. Isaacs.
MEMO 10/10/95
INUTE BOOK NO. 53
age No. 362
