<br /> MIS: BUCHAN/LA BERGE NOMINATE DIANE HOWARD FOR VICE MA YOR OF <br /> REDWOOD CITY. <br /> Mayor Hartnett asked if there were any other nominations for the Office of Vice Mayor. <br /> Hearing and seeing none, he declared the nominations closed. <br /> Mayor Hartnett recommended that the nomination of Diane Howard to the office of Vice <br /> Mayor be approved by acclamation and Council Members Ruskin and Buchan expressed <br /> the support of their colleagues. <br /> MOTION PASSED BY UNANIMOUS VOICE VOTE AND MAYOR HARTNETT <br /> ANNOUNCED THAT THE NEW VICE MAYOR OF REDWOOD CITY WAS DIANE <br /> HOWARD. <br /> MINUTE ORDER NO. 95-238 <br /> ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <br /> 9. MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST - Mayor Hartnett called upon members of the <br /> Council who wished to address the audience. (307) <br /> A. Councilman Leipzig stated that his remarks would be brief as he knew everyone wanted <br /> to get out and celebrate and get down to the auction. Councilman Leipzig said he wanted <br /> "to thank just a few people tonight who worked on the campaign: Pete and Paula Uccelli <br /> at the top of the list, Larry and Sharon Aikens, Pete and Ginny Hughes, several of my San <br /> Jose State alumni worked on the campaign and are here tonight,....Penny Ferguson who <br /> worked in the office tirelessly, Jamie Travers a volunteer who will now be my assistant, <br /> my good friend Monique Grideo, all the volunteers that helped out walking, ringing <br /> doorbells, making phone calls. It was a tremendous effort." Councilman Leipzig said that <br /> Mayor Gasparini had mentioned his mother, Marguerite earlier in the evening, the first <br /> woman Mayor of Redwood City. He wanted everyone to know that unfortunately his <br /> parents and eight siblings were unable to attend the swearing-in ceremony, but that they <br /> had worked very hard on his campaign. He added that his family had been through this <br /> before, and although it was exciting, his family believed he could handle it on his own. <br /> Councilman Leipzig stated that last year his oldest brother, Victor, had been sworn in as <br /> the Mayor of Huntingon Beach in Southern California and he described the family <br /> celebration for that event. He stated that his "family was a little burned out on the <br /> swearing-in ceremonies, but they had helped out tremendously" before the election, and <br /> described how hard his dad had worked walking the neighborhoods. Councilman Leipzig <br /> said how grateful he was to both his parents and his whole family. "I look forward to <br /> serving Redwood City for the next four years, working with my fellow colleagues, and I <br /> am sure we will get along well, and provide the leadership that we need for Redwood City. <br /> I am looking forward to that. Let's play ball." <br /> B. Councilman Ruskin stated he wanted to thank many people for the opportunity to be on - <br /> the Council, adding "this is quite a moving event.....Like Dani I find myself wanting to <br /> speak straight from the heart."
