MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST <br /> A. Update on Homeless Shelters by Vice Mayor Howard (205) <br /> Vice Mayor Howard presented an update on the County owned and operated homeless <br /> shelter at its facility at the end of Maple Street located near the Redwood City Police <br /> Facility. Vice Mayor Howard reported that the County had instituted strict guidelines for <br /> use of the facility focusing on health and safety issues and including a voucher system. <br /> She advised that Fair Oaks Community Center Coordinator Gonzalez and Redwood City <br /> Police Sergeant Manry represent the City on the Task Force overseeing operation of the <br /> facility. Vice Mayor Howard added that the County was very solicitous of the City's input <br /> and she and Mayor Hartnett were satisfied with the operation of the homeless shelter at the <br /> County's facility on Maple Street. <br /> B. Councilwoman La Berge gave a report on the National League of Cities conference she <br /> attended in Phoenix, Arizona, November 30 through December 3, 1995, representing the <br /> City of Redwood City. Councilwoman La Berge described the public safety and youth <br /> and education seminars she attended, and advised that she learned of several successful <br /> programs tried in communities around the country that she wanted to discuss further at a <br /> later date.
