Councilman Greenalch <br />stated there was only one way to get to the bottom of the issue; to conduct <br />an independent investigation with the best legal advice available. <br />Councilman Greenalch stated he was "satisfied that Attorney Schricker could <br />provide that, but a member of the public was not," and Councilwoman <br />Steinfeld apparently agreed. <br />Councilwoman Steinfeld asked that this investigation be conducted in public <br />hearings. <br />MIS: STEINFELD/ TO SUBPOENA THE PARTIES INVOLVED, SEND OUT <br />NOTICE OF A PUBLIC HEARING, SCHEDULE A DATE, AND HOLD THAT PUBLIC HEARING. <br />THE MOTION DIED FOR LACK OF A SECOND. <br /> MINUTE ORDER NO. 94-013 <br />Councilman Greenalch stated the investigation is ongoing, and when the <br />results of the investigation are made public, everyone will have ample <br />understanding of why it is necessary to ask for outside legal counsel. <br />Councilman Greenalch added that "there are no accusations being made by the <br />Personnel Committee", and that he did not deal in gossip or innuendo. <br />Councilman Greenalch said he was 100% comfortable with the legal advice he <br />received that the City Council is handling such a critical matter in such a <br />professional, ethical and legal manner. <br />Councilwoman Gasparini, in answer to Councilwoman Steinfeld's questions, <br />advised that five members of the Council voted to approve the investigation <br />process; and added that she did not want to be identified with gossip, <br />innuendo and the type of conduct witnessed tonight at the podium. <br />Councilwoman Gasparini stated she wanted to see this process concluded so <br />the Council get on with business that matters. <br />TITLE READ. In answer to Councilwoman Steinfeld's question why the <br />Council was continuing to spend money on this investigation, Councilman <br />Greenalch reiterated that there was one critical piece of information that <br />the investigation needed to have, and once that information is given the <br />entire report must be reviewed by the Personnel Committee in conjunction <br />with an attorney because the matters are so serious.
