<br /> Ellen , Turks Head Court, stated smaller buses were used in the past <br /> and should be used again. <br /> - "".'",' <br /> Captain Granucci introduced Geor'gEtMefropulos, 759 Hillcrest Drive, Redwood <br /> City, Chairman of the Education Committee and a teacher at Ralston Middle <br /> School where Jaime Elison attended, stated the sole purpose of the committee <br /> was to educate the residents and businesses in Redwood Shores about the <br /> accident, and provide safety rules to make Redwood Shores a safer place. <br /> Mr. Metropulos stated that changing behavior was the only way to get the <br /> point across and described the four things they had done: 1) Provident <br /> Credit Union wrote, produced and mailed a flyer to all 230 businesses in <br /> Redwood Shores; 2) 4,000 letters were hand delivered by Ralston students to <br /> residences in Redwood Shores, with assistance from Community Policing <br /> Officer Gil Granado and encouragement from park maintenance personnel; 3) <br /> PTAs were contacted to set up safety talks and Gil Granado offered to <br /> provide these presentations; and 4) 10 signs "One death too manyll, similar <br /> to a real estate sign, were positioned on a rotating basis, with help from <br /> the City Engineer advising where they could be placed. Mr. Metropulos <br /> stated that Oracle had its own safety program and asked to buy these signs, <br /> and the Pacific Athletic Club asked to buy them too. Mr. Metropulos thanked <br /> Mayor Buchan and Councilwoman La Berge for their quick response to his <br /> concerns. <br /> Mayor Buchan called on those people who submitted speaker's cards: <br /> Anne Burchill, 20 Lido Circle, asked Council if the signs were legal. City <br /> Attorney Schricker advised that it was against the law for individuals to <br /> make signs similar to traffic devices and Mrs. Burchillls concerns were <br /> understandable. City Attorney Schricker suggested that Community Policing <br /> Officer Granado be consulted in determining where signs could be placed. <br /> Mrs. Burchill stated there were too many signs in Redwood Shores and was <br /> concerned that a proliferation of signs with many agendas may spring up. <br /> Joe Steinfeld, 850 Main'Street, held up a large banner with the words "Slow <br /> down..We Love our Kids..and our Airport, too" and asked that a permanent <br /> sign be installed to slow down speeders.
