Mr. Kramer agreed that his Committee's recommendations, except
the request for the permanent four-way stop sign on Bowsprit and Bridge
Parkway, would be forwarded to the Traffic Committee for their consideration
and recommendation to the Council.
Council Members thanked Mr. Kramer and the Traffic Control Device Committee
Members for their willingness to form a partnership with the City to resolve
lssues.
Captain Granucci introduced Bob Kohn, Chairman of the Enforcement Committee.
Mr. Kohn, 550 Skiff Circle, stated his Committee's main concerns were: 1)
cross walk violations; and 2) the need for increased patrol and the use of
radar. Mr. Kohn thanked Community Policing Officer Gil Granado for his
tremendous assistance in increasing the number of citations issued and his
willingness to work with the residents of the Redwood Shores neighborhood to
do what is necessary to increase traffic safety. Mr. Kohn stated that San
Carlos and Belmont have assisted by installing new speed limit signs, and
outlined some ideas to catch speeders and publish their names in the
newspaper.
Captain Granucci announced that Dick Sanborn was the chair of the Student
Education Committee but was unable to attend this meeting. Captain Granucci
advised that the Committee had met with the Belmont School District and
CalTrans to discuss alternative bus routes. Captain Granucci advised that a
joint agreement has been reached to build new pads with concrete where the
students have to stand and wait for the bus.
Heather Shotwell, 9 Tidewater Drive, member of the Student Transportation
Committee, advised that the talks are continuing regarding alternative
routes.
City Manager Everett announced that the pads are being started.
Jack Murray, 602 Harbor Colony Court, advised that the school district was
unable to agree to changes in route at Bowsprit because the turning radius
was too small, but they were willing to consider rerouting at Dory.
In answer to Council questions, Mrs. Shotwell stated that the large
SamTrans buses were used due to a cost factor, and signage stating that
children were aboard was prohibited.
Regular Meeting Minutes
MINUTE BOOK NO. 52 February 14, 1994 ~'
Page No. 138 Page 6
