<br /> MIS: GREENALCHISTEINFELD THAT THE CITY COUNCIL COMMIT ITSELF TO A <br /> DEMONSTRATION PROJECT IN SOUTHEASTERN REDWOOD CITY USING THE URBAN <br /> GUNFIRE LOCATION SYSTEM IN COOPERATION WITH THE COUNTY, AND CRITERIA <br /> SET BY THE CITY COUNCIL, REDWOOD CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT, <br /> REPRESENT A TIVE OF THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT AND <br /> THE CITIZENS OF SOUTHEASTERN REDWOOD CITY WHO HAVE BEEN ACTIVE IN <br /> THIS ISSUE. <br /> MOTION CARRIED BY THE FOLLOWING VOICE VOTE: <br /> AYES: COUNCIL MEMBERS CLAIRE, GASPARINI, GREENALCH, LA BERGE, <br /> STEINFELD AND MAYOR BUCHAN <br /> NOES: COUNCILMAN SANFILIPO <br /> MINUTE ORDER NO. 94-043 <br /> Mayor Buchan recognized the following speakers: <br /> Pete Hughes, 18 Admiralty Court, Redwood City, stated that unless witnesses point out the offenders, <br /> no arrests could be made. Mr. Hughes advised that he and his wife were great organizers, and offered to <br /> be the eyes and ears for the police on specific holidays. He expressed confidence that with community <br /> support this problem could be eliminated. <br /> Keith Daum, 563 Scott Avenue, Redwood City, stated his "Southeastern Redwood City Coalition" <br /> supports the Council's action in pursuing a demonstration project as a good next step. <br /> Salvador Sandoval, 2508 Spring Street, Redwood City, stated that the demonstration was a good first <br /> step, and invited Vice Mayor Claire to SRI to witness the positive aspects of the system. Mr. Sandoval <br /> thanked Councilman Greenalch for his leadership. <br /> Council members expressed concern that the community assumed that the Council did not support this <br /> system, when in fact, the Council and staff were researching the issue and seeking win/win solutions. <br /> Bonnie Miller, 1224 - 5th Avenue, co-chair of Friendly Acres Neighborhood Association, spoke in <br /> favor of more police officers on the street; and, Community Policing Officer Stoney made all the <br /> difference in her community. <br /> MIS: CLAIRE/LA BERGE TO APPROVE STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS: <br /> 1) Four (4) additional police officer positions; <br /> 2) Two (2) additional police patrol sedans; <br /> 3) Full funding for a civilian juvenile counselor; <br /> 4) Purchase service weapons for police officers; and <br /> 5) Fund the transitional cost for relocating fire dispatching. <br /> CARRIED BY UNANIMOUS VOICE VOTE. <br /> MINUTE ORDER NO. 94-044 <br /> MINUTE BOOK NO. 52 <br /> Page No. 152 Regular Meeting Minutes <br /> February 28, 1994 <br /> Page 8 <br />
