5./f~1 REPORT July 12, 2004 Subject Award of Contract - Lakeview Reservoir Rehabilitation Project Recommendation Approve the Contract Documents and award the Lakeview Reservoir Rehabilitation Project to Bamer Construction Co. of Castro Valley, California, for their low base bid of $567,461.00 plus the two Add Alternates amounting to $82,000, bringing the total project cost to $649,461.00, and waive any irregularities. Background This project is to rehabilitate Lakeview Reservoir - a 70 year old reservoir that holds approximately one (1) million gallons of drinking water. Located in the center of the Emerald Lake Hills area, Lakeview Reservoir can be found near the intersection of Lakeview Way and Woodland Way, one mile west of the Alameda de las Pulgas. It serves one of the largest service zones in the City, which includes approximately 625 homes within this one square mile area. The reservoir has a failing roof, which is increasingly unsafe for the City's Public Works Services personnel to access, and furthermore, it does not meet current seismic requirements, making the structure unreliable in the event of a major earthquake. The roof is proposed to be replaced and the columns reinforced. New inlet and outlet pipe modifications are also proposed, to improve connections to the water system.
