<br /> 5. ,£~ <br /> The low bid of $567,461.00 is 19% lower than the Engineer's Estimate of $700,000 for <br /> the cost of construction. Any bid irregularities found, do not affect the final bids <br /> submitted by the Contractors. <br /> Two Add Alternate Bid Items were listed, and although they do not count toward <br /> determining the lowest responsible bidder, staff recommends awarding both Alternates. <br /> Alternative <br /> Do not award the contract; do not repair the failing roof, and run the increased risk of <br /> major damage during future seismic events. This failure will result in disruptions in fire <br /> protection and water services for a long period of time. Possible fall-outs from the <br /> disruptions of service would range from terminations of normal water supply activities to <br /> extreme reductions to the levels of protection of health and safety in the region. <br /> Extreme higher cost for emergency repairs, and compromised water quality limits are <br /> other considerations. <br /> Fiscal Impacts <br /> If the Council elects to go forward with the project Add Alternates, the construction cost <br /> will be $649,461.00 for this project.
