<br /> Ted Lempert and Ruben Barrales from the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors and <br /> Denise deVille, of SAMCEDA presented the San Mateo County Economic Development Plan and <br /> asked the City to participate in this plan. Some of the goals are to generate and retain jobs in the <br /> County as well as to attract jobs to Redwood City and the importance of setting up a strike force. <br /> The County has made a $50,000 commitment to this program and it is hoped that all 20 cities in <br /> San Mateo County will participate and that they will contribute a cumulative total of$50,000. <br /> Redwood City is being asked to commit up to $15,000. <br /> Councilwoman La Berge asked for clarification on the lead agency, plans for gathering <br /> information and what other cities have been approached. Supervisor Barrales stated that the <br /> program is a partnership. There will be a large working group of 8-1 0 people and SAMCEDA is <br /> willing to provide the space for housing and the community college district is also a possibility. <br /> Denise de Ville addressed the fact that one ofthe challenges is to figure out what information <br /> needs to be collected and what the priorities are. Part ofthe first year program is to collect all the <br /> data. <br /> So far about four cities in San Mateo County have been approached and are in favor of the <br /> program. <br /> Supervisor Lempert stated that there will be a meeting next Monday, April 18, 1994, with all <br /> interested cities to discuss how the organization will be put together. <br /> In response to Councilwoman Gasparini's questions on future funding the goal is to attract cities, <br /> the private sector and the community college to help support this program financially. There is <br /> also the possibility of getting State and Federal grants. The target date to get this program off the <br /> ground and set up a strike team is July 1, 1994. <br /> CouncilmanSanfiIipo expressed interest in seeing this program business oriented. Supervisor <br /> Barrales emphasized that this program will be for the public and private sector. <br /> Don Warren representative of the San Mateo County Chamber of Commerce discussed the <br /> importance of joining in the Countywide task force. The Chamber encourages Redwood City to <br /> support this program and allocate funds. <br /> MIS.
