ORAL COMMUNICATIONS <br /> A. Joe Steinfeld, 850 Main Street, Redwood City, stated that the taxpayers owed a debt of gratitude <br /> to Councilwoman La Berge and especially her husband, Dale Warren, who have a close <br /> relationship with Municipal Court Judge Barbara Mallach. Through Judge Mallach's efforts the <br /> taxpayers saved $20,000 -$30,000 in the settlement reached in the People v. Steinfeld case. <br /> Mayor Buchan interrupted Mr. Steinfeld and said that this incident was under San Mateo County <br /> Municipal Court jurisdiction and not under the Council's purview, and the Council did not want to <br /> hear any more about it. <br /> City Attorney Schricker advised that impugning the integrity of a Council Member and Judge of <br /> the Municipal Court was highly improper. <br /> Mayor Buchan requested that Mr. Steinfeld drop this matter and continue with a different issue. <br /> Mr. Steinfeld stated the police department was seriously understaffed, Mr. Steinfeld advised that <br /> it had taken 4 years to gain control over the 600 block of Main, and 4 months to have a police <br /> presence at Council meetings.
