Councilwoman Gasparini reported on the League of Cities Community Services Conference she
attended in Sacramento, April 13-15, 1994, and advised that a written report will be sent to
Council.
B. Councilman Greenalch reported on his meeting with Ed Bailey and Bonnie Miller, Co-Chairs of
the Friendly Acres Neighborhood Association and Salvador Sandoval, Hoover/ Middlefield
Neighborhood Association Co-Chair. Both Associations requested a community forum to be held
with the City Council sometime after Labor Day. The requested forum is based on a model from
the City of San Jose. It is proposed that a questionnaire be developed and circulated prior to the
meeting. The Co-Chairs recommended that bilingual translation services be provided for the
forum. Councilman Greenalch suggested that this item be put on the Council agenda for action on
May 9, 1994.
Councilman Claire suggested that this item be put on the agenda after the election in November
when at least two new Council Members will be on the Council, or early next month before
summer vacations.
Councilwoman La Berge recommended that the forum be held in early September.
Councilwoman Steinfeld suggested that the forum be held the first Monday after Labor Day.
Councilman Sanfilipo stated he would also like to see forums held in Redwood Shores and East
Redwood City.
Mayor Buchan stated that no one would have to wait until there is a forum because Friendly
Acres Neighborhood Association meets the second Thursday of every month at Taft School.
Mayor Buchan suggested that the forum be held in mid-November.
Councilwoman Gasparini felt that the questionnaire would be a key part of developing the
agenda, and advised that holding the forum in September/October was acceptable.
Councilman Greenalch discussed the following points: holding the forum on Sunday; the forum
process may be replicated throughout Redwood City; and the process should be formatted so it
doesn't turn into a candidate's forum.
Mayor Buchan announced that this item will be placed on the agenda for May 9, 1994 as an
action item.
Memo 5/4/94
MINUTE BOOK NO. 52
Page No. 230 Adjourned Special Meeting Minutes
May 2, 1994
Page 3
