8 <br /> <br />Effective with Council adoption of the new Memorandum of Understanding, the <br />City will implement a mandatory direct deposit program forSeptember 1, 2006, <br />all new hires shall participate in a mandatory direct deposit program. <br /> <br />7.4 Premium Pay <br /> <br />Police Officers assigned as Detectives, regularly assigned as Traffic Unit <br />Officers, Field Training Officers, Canine Handlers, and officers assigned to C- <br />CAT, PAL and DARE Juvenile Detective, Street Crime Suppression Team, Vehicle <br />Theft Task Force, Narcotics Task Force, Drug Enforcement Administration, <br />School Resources Officer, DARE Officer, Motorcycle Officer, PAL Officer, CCAT <br />Officer, Field Training Officers and Downtown Resource Officer, shall receive <br />premium pay in the amount of 5% of the officer’s base pay. <br /> <br />The selection process to serve in any of the aforementioned assignments and as <br />a Canine Officer, shall minimally consist of the submission of a letter of <br />interest by the applicant followed by participation in an interview/oral board <br />process. The Police Chief or his/her designee may add additional components <br />to the selection process, including, but not limited to, a written examination, <br />assessment center or physical agility test. <br /> <br />Police Officers and Police Officer Trainees who are regularly assigned to swing <br />shift (C-Watch) or night shift (A-Watch) shall receive premium pay in the <br />amount of 5% of the officer’s base pay. <br /> <br />Police Officers, the majority of whose regularly scheduled work hours fall after <br />1400 hours (2:00 p.m.), who are regularly scheduled to work between the hours <br />of 2:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. shall receive premium pay in the amount of 5% of <br />the officer’s base pay for all hours worked on their regularly scheduled shift. <br /> <br />7.5 Bilingual Pay <br /> <br />The City, with Department Head approval, shall pay a differential of 2.5% of <br />base pay to employees who are proficient in Spanish and who successfully pass <br />a proficiency examination. <br /> <br />The City, with Department Head approval, shall pay a differential of 5% of base <br />pay to employees who can translate Spanish well enough to conduct intense <br />suspect and victim interviews at a level that will hold up in court. Officers <br />that accept the 5% pay would be required to agree, when called upon, to <br />translate city wide and be a spokesperson for the police department when <br />communications between the Spanish press and the police department are <br />needed. <br /> <br />To retain either the 2.5% or the 5% differential, employees will be required to <br />pass a bi-annual recertification proficiency examination. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />6.1.C. - Page 17
