12 <br /> <br />The City will also provide and maintain the following Battle Dress <br />Uniforms (BDU) to be worn at the direction of the Police Chief or <br />his/her designee: <br /> <br />1 pair of BDU pants <br />1 long-sleeve BDU shirt <br />1 short-sleeve BDU shirt <br /> <br />Officers shall not be required to wear soft body armor unless <br />working in uniform in an enforcement capacity or taking part in <br />Department range training. The following sections outline the <br />exceptions to this requirement: <br /> <br />a) Officers assigned as Detective shall not be required to wear <br />body armor unless they are involved in a pre-planned raid or <br />arrent scenario of an anticipated suspect, or when directed <br />by a supervisor. <br />b) Officers may be excused from wearing body armor when <br />they are functioning in a primarily administrative or support <br />capacity. <br />c) Officers shall not be considered to be working in an <br />enforcement capacity while appearing in court. <br />d) Officers may be excused from wearing body armor when <br />medical clearance has been provided by a valid medical <br />authority. <br />e) Officers may be exempted from this requirement on a case <br />by case basis and when deemed appropriate by a supervisor. <br /> <br />7.13.2 The City will provide for all Police Officers cleaning, altering, <br />repairing and/or replacement of damaged uniforms as authorized by <br />the Police Chief or his/her designee. <br /> <br />Such furnished uniforms shall remain the property of and under the <br />control of the City. <br /> <br />At the end of each fiscal year, the Finance Department will calculate <br />the total cost of cleaning, altering, repairing and/or replacement of <br />damaged uniforms. This total cost will be divided by the number of <br />Police Officers who have been assigned to patrol duty during the fiscal <br />year. The time during which a Police Officer is assigned to detective <br />duty during the fiscal year shall not be factored into the calculations <br />described herein. The resulting quotient will be part of the PERS <br />reportable compensation only for those Police Officers who were <br />assigned to patrol duty at any time during the fiscal year. Any <br />Officers assigned to patrol duty for less than the full fiscal year will <br />have this amount prorated based on the number of pay periods <br />assigned to patrol. <br /> <br />7.13.3 Police Officers assigned as dDetectives, Juvenile Detective, Street <br />Crime Suppression Team, Vehicle Theft Task Force, Narcotics Task <br />6.1.C. - Page 21
