22 <br /> <br />Disability Leave. Such leave shall not be used for child care, child <br />rearing, or preparation for childbearing, but shall be limited to those <br />disabilities as set forth above. The length of such disability leave, <br />including the date on which the leave shall commence and the date on <br />which the duties are to be resumed, shall be determined by the <br />employee and the employee's physician; however, the Personnel <br />Officer may require a verification of the extent of disability through a <br />physical examination of the employee by a physician appointed by the <br />City at City expense. <br /> <br />Family Medical Leave and Pregnancy Disability Leave will run <br />concurrently with Parental leave as permitted by law. <br /> <br />9.7.2 Employees are entitled to leave without pay or other benefits for <br />disabilities because of pregnancy, miscarriage, childbirth, or recovery <br />therefrom when sick leave has been exhausted. The date on which <br />the employee shall resume duties shall be determined by the <br />employee on leave and the employee's physician; however, the <br />Personnel Officer may require a verification of the extent of disability <br />through a physical examination of the employee by a physician <br />appointed by the City. <br /> <br />9.7.3 The employee on leave shall be returned to an equivalent position <br />within her classification. <br /> <br />9.8 Parental Leave of Absence <br /> <br />A male or female employee may be granted, at the Police Chief’s discretion, a <br />leave of absence without pay to fulfill parenting responsibilities for up to one <br />(1) year following the child’s birth or one (1) year following the filing of <br />application for adoption and actual arrival of a child in the home. <br /> <br />The combination of pregnancy leave and parental leave shall not exceed one <br />(1) year. <br /> <br />Family Medical Leave, Pregnancy Disability Leave, and California Family Rights <br />Act Leave will run concurrently with Parental Leave as permitted by law. <br /> <br />9.89 Absence Notification <br /> <br />Failure on the part of an employee to report for duty or notify the designated <br />management official one-half (1/2) hour prior to the employee's scheduled <br />starting time as to a reason why the employee cannot report may subject the <br />employee to disciplinary action. <br /> <br />9.910 Bereavement Leave <br /> <br />9.910.1 In the event of a death in the immediate family of an employee of the <br />City, that employee shall, upon request, be granted such time off with <br />pay as is necessary to make arrangements for the funeral and attend <br />6.1.C. - Page 33
