Jfthi s materia l is heated, inha lation of fumes may lead to development <br />of metal fume fever. This is a flu -like illn ess with sympto ms of metalli c taste, feve r a nd c hill s, <br />aches, chest tightness and coug h. Re peated inh a lati on exposure can cause sh rin ki ng of t he lining o f the inn e r nose. <br />F irst A id: Inh alation <br />Remove source of contam in ation or move v ictim to fresh air. Apply artificial resp ira ti on i f v ictim is not bre athing. Do n ot use mouth- <br />to-mouth me thod if v ictim in gested or inhnled th e substance : in duce a rtificial respiration with t he aid of a pocket m ask equipped wit h a <br />one-wa)' val ve or o t her proper respiratory medical device . Get immediate medica l <br />atlenti o n. <br />First Ai d; Notes to P hys icia n <br />Prov id e gene ra l s upportive measures and trea t symptomat ical ly. Basic Treatment: Establi s h a patent airway. S ucti on if n ecessary. Watch <br />fo r s ig ns of resp ira to ry in suffic iency a nd assist venti lations if necessary. Administer oxygen by no n-rebreatber mask at I 0 to 15 <br />Llm inutes. Monitor for shock a nd treat if necessary. For eye contamination , flu s h eyes imm ediately with water. Irrigat e eac h eye <br />continuo us ly with no rmaJ sa lin e during tra nspo rt. Do not use e met ics. For in gestion, rinse mouth and administer 5 mL/kg up to 200 mL <br />of water fo r dilution if the pati ent can swall ow, has a strong gag reflex, and does not drool. Ad mini ster activated charcoal. Advanced <br />Treatment: Consider o ro tracheal or nasotrac heal intubatio n fo r ai rway co ntrol in t he patient wh o is unc o nscious . Start an fV w ith lactated <br />Ringer's SRP: "To keep open ", minim a l fl ow rate. Watch for signs of fl uid overload. For hypotension with signs of hypovolemia, <br />administer fluid cautio us ly . Consider vasopressors if hypotensive w ith a normal fluid volum e. Watch for signs of lluid ove rload .
