1 <br />Attachment 2 <br /> <br /> <br />BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF AGENCY FUNDING REQUESTS <br />HSFA APPLICANTS FY 12-13 <br /> <br /> <br />Bay Area Legal Aid – Domestic Violence Legal Safety Net Project. Bay Area <br />Legal Aid’s Project helps increase the safety, self-sufficiency, and housing <br />stability of domestic violence victims by providing free multi-lingual legal <br />assistance, with an emphasis on restraining order assistance. Project Activities <br />include providing referrals, options counseling, safety planning, legal advice and <br />counsel, brief legal services, pro per (self-represented) assistance with <br />restraining orders, and full legal representation to low-income victims of domestic <br />violence. Funding Requested: $15,000. Funding Recommended: $10,000. <br /> <br />El Centro de Libertad – Youth and Adult Intervention Programs <br />The goal of the Youth Intervention Program is to improve the physical and <br />emotional health of youth and their families living in Redwood City who are <br />caught in the cycle of substance abuse. The Adult Intervention Program is an <br />outpatient program that is tailored to meet individual and family needs in both <br />Spanish and English. Funding Requested: $10,000. Funding Recommended: <br />$10,000. <br /> <br />Fresh Lifelines for Youth, Inc (FLY) – Law Program for Redwood City <br />Youth. FLY’s mission is to prevent juvenile crime and incarceration through <br />legal education, mentoring, and leadership training. FLY will provide its Law <br />Program to 30 at-risk Redwood City high schoolers and a week-long version of <br />the program to 200 Redwood City middle schoolers. Youth learn about the <br />consequences of criminal behavior and develop the life skills to say no to crime <br />and build healthier lives. The Program is an innovative law education course <br />taught in 2-hour sessions over 12 weeks by volunteer law and university <br />students, community professionals and FLY staff. Funding Requested: $10,000. <br />Funding Recommended: $10,000. <br /> <br />Health Connected – Redwood City Reproductive Health Education Project. <br />The mission of Health Connected is to help young people feel confident and <br />supported to make informed decisions about their own sexual health. In the <br />2015-2016 school year, Health Connected expects to provide in-school <br />comprehensive sexual health education courses to approximately 2,350 5th-12th <br />grade students in Redwood City through the Redwood City Reproductive Health <br />Education Project. Through this project, Health Connected’s highly trained health <br />educators will provide five developmentally appropriate courses in sexual health <br />education - Puberty Talk, Teen Talk Middle School, Teen Talk High School, Teen <br />Talk High School Refresher, and, currently in development, Teen Talk Special <br />Education.
