E. Dr. Sam Dardick, physician at Kaiser Hospital, spoke in opposition to Proposition 188, written by a tobacco company to limit the City's authority to pass stricter non-smoking legislation. Dr. Dardick stated it was the Council's duty to eliminate the risk of second hand smoke and referred to statistics with Redwood City having more deaths from smoking than any other peninsula city. F. Dr. Henry Brodkin, physician at Kaiser Hospital, told the Council it was appropriate for the elected leaders of a City to provide leadership to their constituents and urged Council to warn Redwood City voters against Proposition 188. Dr. Brodkin stated Proposition 188 was a trick by the tobacco companies to abrogate the rights of the Council to determine what was best for Redwood City. Dr. Brodkin urged Council to take the lead and make people aware of the dangers of smoking and Proposition 188. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2.
