<br /> Councilwoman La Berge described the coalition of Peninsula leaders who were <br /> supporting this initiative, including Mary Griffin, President of the San Mateo County <br /> Board of Supervisors, and Chair of the countywide Childrens Executive Council who <br /> developed this proposal. Councilwoman La Berge stressed the benefits that would accrue <br /> to the children of Redwood City through this initiative. Councilwoman La Berge, member <br /> of the Childrens Executive Council and San Mateo cities representative, advised that the <br /> San Mateo County Board of Supervisors had proclaimed 1995 as the Year of the Child. <br /> Councilwoman La Berge urged her colleagues to adopt the resolution supporting the goals <br /> and principles of the Peninsula Partnership Initiative which will focus on children from <br /> before birth through the third grade; address the health, educational, social, emotional and <br /> economic needs of children; and produce clear measurable outcomes. <br /> Councilwoman La Berge, Chairperson for the Year of the Child in San Mateo County, <br /> asked that the City prepare a proclamation for the Year of the Child for January 23, 1995. <br /> MEMO 12/20/94 <br /> TITLE READ. The Redwood City Police Department hopes to reduce random <br /> gunfire through a program of education, suppression, apprehension and prosecution. <br /> (1004-01) <br /> City Manager Everett described the Police Department's program, "Silent Night" and <br /> advised that the City has a "hot line" 780-7180 in operation right now to report gunfire in <br /> Redwood City. City Manager Everett stated it was a felony to discharge a firearms, and a <br /> reward of up to $500 was being offered for information leading to the arrest of those <br /> people who illegally discharge firearms. Half of the Police Department will be on duty <br /> during New Year's Eve; and some Police personnel will be looking for drunk drivers and <br /> others will be responding to the gunfire calls; volunteers and ham radio operators will <br /> assist the Police; officers will make arrests and book offenders at County jail, and the <br /> District Attorney has agreed to fully prosecute those arrested. <br />------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ <br />4.
