<br /> <br /> 1 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />NOTICE OF INTENT TO INCREASE RATES FOR UNSCHEDULED SOLID WASTE SERVICES <br /> <br />On March 28, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall, 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, California, the City Council of the <br />City of Redwood City will hold a public hearing to consider rates for solid waste services in the City. No increase is <br />proposed for scheduled basic collection of residential or commercial solid waste and recyclable materials. Rate increases <br />are proposed for certain unscheduled solid waste services. The proposed rates are set forth in this notice. If the City <br />Council approves the proposed rate schedule, it will be effective on March 29, 2016 and will apply to services rendered on <br />or after that date. <br /> <br />THE PROPOSAL <br />A 1.07% increase is proposed for Unscheduled Services. Unscheduled Services include miscellaneous services that are <br />above and beyond routine garbage collection. For example, these services include items such as backyard collection, <br />key service, or additional carts. This increase is based on the one year change in the U. S. Department of Labor, Bureau <br />of Labor Statistics, Consumer Price Index. The purpose of the City’s solid waste rates is to recover the costs of providing <br />solid waste services. Collection services are provided by Recology San Mateo County under contract with the City. <br /> <br />The report detailing the cost to provide services is available for review at the City Clerk’s Office and is also posted on the <br />City’s website at www.redwoodcity.org/finance/utility/utilityrates.html. <br /> <br />REGULAR SERVICE (No change to existing rates): REGULAR SERVICE (No change to existing rates): <br />Residential Monthly <br />Capacity Each Can <br />20 gallons (existing rate) $11.38 <br />32 gallons (existing rate) $27.30 <br />64 gallons (existing rate) $54.61 <br />96 gallons (existing rate) $81.06 <br /> <br />Residential customers are billed every other month. <br />Residential rates shown above reflect monthly charges. <br /> <br />UNSCHEDULED SERVICES: <br />RESIDENTIAL (PROPOSED RATES) <br />(The services offered and the recommended rates are listed below.) <br /> <br />Return Trip Cost $16.43 (per collection event) for collection service provided after the regularly scheduled collection day. <br /> <br />Additional Targeted Recyclable Materials or Organic Materials Cart Rental or Purchase – Rental $3.28 per month, <br />Purchase 64 gallon cart $68.97, Purchase 96 gallon cart $75.54. <br /> <br />Fee to Collect Contaminated Targeted Recyclable Materials or Organic Materials Container – 25% of the base monthly <br />rate for the size of the container collected once per week plus $16.43 (per collection event). <br /> <br />Key Service - $9.31 per collection event, Lock Purchase $18.61 (one time per account). <br /> <br />Overage Fee – 100% of the base monthly rate per collection event <br /> <br />Overage Bag Cost - 50% of the base monthly rate or a minimum of $8.75 (whichever is greater) – per bag. <br /> <br />Container Cleaning - $54.74 per cart, $93.06 per Bin or Drop Box. <br /> <br />Dirty Cart Replacement - $71.15 per 32 gallon cart, $82.11 per 64 gallon cart, $93.06 per 96 gallon cart. <br /> <br />On-Call Bulky Item Collection - $89.28 for each collection after the first two per year. <br /> <br />COMMERCIAL AND MULTI-FAMILY RESIDENTIAL (PROPOSED RATES) <br />(The services offered and the recommended rates are listed below.) <br /> <br />Distance Charges for containers located between 51 to 100 feet from access point for contractor’s collection vehicle – <br />10% of the monthly base rate. <br />Distance Charges for containers located between 101 feet or more from access point for contractor’s collection vehicle – <br />25% of the monthly base rate. <br /> <br />Extra Pick-up fee – 25% of the base rate for the size of container collected once per week – per collection event. <br /> <br />Additional Targeted Recyclable Materials or Organic Materials Cart Rental or Purchase – Rental $3.28 per month, <br />Purchase 64 gallon cart $68.97, Purchase 96 gallon cart $75.54. <br /> <br />Fee to Collect Contaminated Targeted Recyclable Materials or Organic Materials Container – 25% of the base monthly <br />rate for the size of the container collected once per week. <br /> <br />Key Service - $10.40 per collection event, Lock Purchase $18.61 (one time per account). <br /> <br />Overage Fee – 100% of the base monthly rate per collection event <br /> <br />Commercial Monthly <br />EXISTING RATES <br />Subscription Level <br />(yards per week) <br />Monthly Rate <br />$/Yard <br /> 1-10 127.63 <br /> 11- 20 131.45 <br /> 21-30 135.40 <br /> 31-50 139.47 <br /> 51+ 143.64 <br /> <br />7.A. - Page 4
