5. PUBLIC HEARINGS
None.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6. MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST
A. Councilman Murray reported on the Progress Seminar in Monterey attended by
Council Members and City Manager where Mr. Turpen, San Francisco
International Airport Director described expected increase in air traffic in
the next fifteen years, but did not address the question of housing for the
additional workers at the airport. Councilman Murray advised that C/CAG had
asked for an ex officio member on the SFIA Board to have input and gain
information.
B. Councilman Bury described the significant impacts on traffic, housing and
employment produced by airport policies and described TSM concerns.
C. Councilman Stangel discussed the light rail system to be operational by 1995
at the airport and described SamTrans involvement with the airport plans.
D. Councilman Murray advised that he and Councilwoman Buchan attended a meeting
on airport noise, and advised that Supervisor Griffin is to work with the
Board of Supervisors to begin drafting a county ordinance addressing the
problem of airport noise.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7. BOARD, COMMISSION AND COMMITTEE REPORTS
A. Request of San Mateo County Chapter AlA (American Institute of Architects)
to present a Charrette in Redwood City (302-17)
REPORT: Planning Director, April 27, 1992
Planning Director Joel Patterson introduced Tom Gilman, DES Architect and
Chairman of the Redwood City Architectural Advisory Committee, representative
of the San Mateo County Chapter of the AlA, who addressed the Council on the
possibility of a potential design Charrette for Redwood City. Counc i1 man
Bury described a Charrette as the cart used to carry the designs/course work
at the end of the day, in the days of yore. Mr. Gilman described the modern
day Charrette as a concentrated design work, done in a short time. Mr.
Gilman described the Charrette done for Half Moon Bay last year with slides
and handouts. Mr. Gilman stated the focus of a Charrette was to provide
ideas big and small for consideration; it was brainstorming with pictures;
and it was designed to take place in the downtown area to encourage citizens
to attend and take part. Mr. Gilman asked that if Redwood City thought a
Charrette would be beneficial that a donation of $5,000 to the San Mateo
County AlA be made, and that Redwood City cover the costs of approximately
$3,000. Mr. Robert George, past President of the AlA and General Chairman
of the Half Moon Bay Charrette stated that if the City would like them to
organize a Charrette the City could draft a letter to them inviting them to
do so.
Regular Meeting Minutes
April 27, 1992 MINUTE BOOK NO. 51
Page 3
Page No. 63
. ..........
