Motion <br />carried unanimously by electronic vote. <br /> <br />10. MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST <br /> <br /> A. City Council Member Report of Conferences Attended <br /> <br />Council Member Seybert attended the Sequoia Village ribbon cutting. He spoke about <br />the movement of these kinds of virtual villages. <br /> <br />Council Member Aguirre attended the League of California Cities retreat. She spoke <br />about the new members that attended. <br /> <br />Council Member Pierce attended the Grand Boulevard Initiative and spoke about the <br />presentation of the 21 Elements Multi-City Nexus Report. She asked to have a <br />presentation on that report here. She attended a meeting at the Resource Management <br />and Climate Protection and there was a talk about the status of the water levels. <br /> <br />Mayor Gee stated that Staff will be providing the 21 Elements study. <br /> <br />Mr. Aknin stated that Redwood City already has strong policy direction from the Council <br />that they want to adopt this, which other cities haven’t done. <br /> <br />Council Member Pierce stated there may be a number of cities that are willing to adopt <br />it together. Council Member Bain went to the second Community Choice Energy <br />Program, to be called Peninsula Clean Energy. <br /> <br /> B. City Council Committee Reports <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Foust recognized and thanked the Peninsula Celebration Association for the <br />July 4th celebration. She recognized Susie Peyton for the Chalk Festival. <br /> <br />Mayor Gee spoke about the recent earthquake and reminded everyone to be prepared <br />for earthquakes. He stated that next week the Council will welcome Canada Colleges <br />International Student Cohort at Council Chambers which is made up of over 60 <br />international students looking for housing. Tuesday October 13 will be Dine Out for <br />Meals on Wheels. He spoke about the All Star Karate Center whose team, Team <br />Adrenaline, went to the World Championships in Orlando, FL and came in second <br />place. The Sequoia Yacht Club had their West Point Regatta with over 70 boats who <br />raced from Treasure Island to the port of Redwood City. The Library Director raised 25 <br />thousand books to give away to youth in the community and Ryan Traynor was featured <br />on Good Morning America. <br /> C. City Manager (Oral) Update <br />Mr. Aknin stated that regarding the flooding issues, short term measures are going to <br />be put in place near mobile home parks and enforcement on local property owners with <br />inadequate drainage systems. <br />6.1.F. - Page 19
