7.B. - Page 138
From: Andrew Rondeau [mailto:andrew.rondeau©gmail.com]
Sent: Monday, August 26, 2013 11:41 PM
To: CD-Michelle Littlefield
Subject: Vagrancy at the proposed Highway 101 Pedestrian Undercrossing at Bair Island
Hello Michelle,
During planning the proposed Highway 101 Pedestrian Undercrossing at Bair Island, can you
please address vagrancy in this area, and ensure that it is safe to walk through at night?
I live at 730 Bair Island Road,Apt 301. On many weekends,my wife and I walk our dog through
the proposed route, and there are a significant amount of vagrants living under the 101 bridge. I
often see people with bottles of liquor, and smell marijuana. Once, I walked past a small group of
teenagers who appeared to be in the middle of some kind of a transaction.
The geography of the location leaves it well out-of-sight for regular patrols. From the Toy's - R-
Us parking lot, it's impossible to see completely under the bridge. Thus, vagrants congregate on
the Bair Island side. I've seen police cars drive past the opening without being able to see who's
living under the bridge.
I fear that without a plan, the proposed undercrossing will be too dangerous for residents who'd
like to make use of it!
