8.A. - Page 18
Total Accidents Number of Injuries:
Year Reports Fatalities Total Injuries Major/Minor
2010 869 0 212 10 / 202
2011 816 1 258 10 / 248
2012 1,037 1 267 15 / 252
2013 1,200 3 388 11 / 377
2014 1,050 2 385 23 / 362
2015 1,090 0 383 17 / 366
Response times for Priority 1 (the most urgent) calls for service to the Police
Department for the last three years are as follows:
Average Response Time Priority 1 Calls
2015
2014
â– Minutes
2013
2 2.2 2.4 2.6 2.8 3 3.2
When considering the data for both departments together, it is clear both the Fire
and Police Departments have experienced increased calls for service and staffing
impacts (including required overtime) due to vacancies and injuries. This is not
desirable for the long term as the increased hours and significant workloads can
negatively impact employee health and morale. At this time, it appears the
community has experienced a greater impact associated with demands on the
Police Department, particularly in the form of reduced traffic enforcement and
reduced crime-prevention capability. With the increase in call volume for the Fire
Department, timely completion of fire inspections is a challenge. As a result,
staffing increases are proposed for both departments for FY 2016-17, and
increases for both departments are recommended for consideration with the FY
2017-18 budget.
18
