Building Official La Torra presented the staff report and recommendations
from the Board of Building Review, and described the part Redwood City has
played in creating model unifòrín< cò'des, and why these codes lead to
state-wide uniformity and clarification of city requirements. Mr. La Torra
thanked the Board for their excellent work and advised Council that two
members of the Board were in the audience, William Addiego and Michael
Bursak.
Council Members thanked the members of the Board of Building review,
Chairman Keith Bautista, William Addiego, Michael Bursak and Mohan Khanna.
and recognized their tremendous service to the City.
In response to Council questions, Building Official La Torra advised
that a delay was being recommended on adoption of codes for swimming pools
to allow for investigation of more appropriate Codes the City could adopt.
Councilman Greenalch explained that the Meeting Minutes of July 14, 1992
regarding consolidation and reduction of fire department staff and a
preference to use sprinklers to fight fires, which were part of the subject
report, were not reflective of the policy nor intentions of the Council, but
simply a summary of what was said at that meeting.
Councilman Murray reported that Redwood City Building Official La Torra was
well-known throughout California as a respected expert in the field of
seismic safety, and asked Mr. La Torra to describe the Board of Building
Review's recommendations on anti-entrapment safety codes. Mr. La Torra
advised that the Board believed the Uniform Plumbing Code was the best Code
to use for anti-entrapment regulations.
INTRODUCTION OF ORDINANCE.
TITLE READ.
