9.0 - Page 3
• The Winslow Parking Lot, with its 46 public parking spaces, is temporarily closed to
the public as it is being used as staging for the 815 Hamilton project and Jefferson
Garage expansion.
• The City issued additional parking permits for the Marshall Garage.
Next Steps
• Assess changing demand in the parking garages due to the opening of the Crossing
900 garage.
• Assess the demand and caps for monthly permits at the Marshall Garage in light of
current usage rates.
• Assess the need for additional parking supply in the Citywide Transportation Plan
which will begin in FY 2016-17.
Continue to coordinate with San Mateo County on opportunities for public parking in
their proposed new parking garage. In addition to increasing weeknight and
weekend supply, this would also increase daytime permit supply. The City could
then shift a percentage of daytime permit parkers (often employees of downtown
employers) from the downtown core to this new garage, thereby freeing up
downtown core spaces for retail customers and visitors.
Technology
• Completed the pilot-testing and evaluation new parking meters and pay stations (on
street and in parking lots) and recommended award of a contract to IPS Group Inc.
for their purchase and installation
• Initiated a pilot with VIMOC Technologies to test sensors that could be used to
collect parking and other transportation data
• Completed the factory-acceptance testing for the new parking garage equipment
and installed the equipment at the Jefferson and Marshall garages (final testing is
ongoing)
• Evaluated various real-time parking signage systems and awarded a contract to
install real-time parking availability signs at the Marshall and Jefferson garages
Next Steps
• End testing phase and go "live" with new parking garage equipment (May)
• Install real-time parking occupancy signs on Jefferson and Marshall garages
(June/July)
• Install new parking meters on street and in public parking lots
• Evaluate the effectiveness and use of the various parking sensors being tested
• Assess the cost and feasibility of implementing a system of real-time, wayfinding
signs to direct visitors to available parking, potentially in partnership with RCIA.
• Coordinate with the Police Department on the selection and purchase of handheld
ticketing devices.
ALTERNATIVES
Not applicable
