Approve the contract documents and plans for the Hudson Street Bicycle and Pedestrian Improvements Project; and authorize the City staff to advertise the project for construction 2. Confirm the determination that the Project is exempt from the provisions of CEQA BACKGROUND Certain segments of Hudson Street carry both a significant volume of automobile traffic and a significant amount of pedestrian and bicycle activity. The pedestrian and bicycle activity is mostly related to the nearby schools, parks and community centers. Residents around Hudson Street and members of the school community have expressed concerns about the traffic conditions and the difficulty posed to people walking across and biking along Hudson Street. With support from the City's bicycle and pedestrian working group, the City applied for and was awarded a grant from the San Mateo Transportation Authority ($532,640 from Measure A — Pedestrian and Bicycle Program). The grant allows for the design and construction of pedestrian and bicycle improvements on Hudson Street between Woodside Road and Whipple Avenue. The original design for the project included corner bulb-outs (and associated drainage modifications as needed), ADA-compliant curb ramps, enhanced crosswalk markings, school and bicycle signage, and minor signal modifications. The proposed improvements were planned and designed with support and input from community members attending two neighborhood meetings, one held in late 2014 and one in 2015. So far, the City has received positive feedback on the final design of the project.
