He stated that the project was approved to reduce lanes to one in each <br /> � direction and a turn lane, between Alameda and the 280. He noted that this is a pilot <br /> %,., project to make sure the efforts led to a safer street and wasn't causing heavier traffic on <br /> the side streets. He spoke about how the turn lane can help the flow of traffic. He spoke <br /> about the bike lanes and the increased safety for pedestrians. Mayor Gee asked if this <br /> is all just repainting. Mr. Aknin stated that it's all paint and the construc#ion will take 1-2 <br /> weeks. Council Member Bain asked about the trial period. <br /> Mr. Aknin stated that befinreen January and June, Staff sent out a survey with qualitative <br /> and quantitative questions asking what the community wants Staff to evaluate over the <br /> next year. There are a number of qualitative and quantitative indicators that Staff will use <br /> to evaluate the efficacy of the restriping. Council Member Howard asked how to avoid <br /> allowing people to use the middle lane as a passing lane. Mr. Aknin stated that there are <br /> a number of other roads where lanes have been reduced and a turning lane added, and <br /> it hasn't been an issue. <br /> D. City Attorney Report from Closed Sessions <br /> City Attorney Thompson reported on three items: <br /> 1-Staff brought forward a proposal to sell or lease land associated with the Winslow <br /> parking lot. Staff received direction to not move forward with the sale or lease of the <br /> land.
