Bacon Company, Inc.

BACKGROUND
Redwood City’s Fleet Replacement Program is designed to provide a structure for
evaluating vehicles and equipment in order to replace them at the most economically
advantageous point in their life cycle. At pre-described intervals, vehicles and
equipment undergo a thorough evaluation including but not limited to, age, mileage,
condition, maintenance history, downtime, anticipated future repairs, usage and vehicle
capabilities.
The Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department (PRCS) manages the
citywide parks’ landscape maintenance program. To support the program, PRCS owns
and operates a loader. The existing unit was purchased in 1990 and it has reached its
useful lifecycle and has met equipment replacement criteria.

ANALYSIS
Representatives from PRCS and Public Works Fleet Division worked together to select
replacement equipment, and agreed that a loader manufactured by Bobcat, model
number S650, Skid Steer Loader will meet the specification developed by staff from
PRCS.

On May 6, 2016, a Notice Inviting Sealed Bids was published in The Daily News with a
submission deadline of 3:00 p.m. on May 19, 2016.
