3. GENERAL i A. JOINT STUDY SESSION WITH THE REDWOOD CITY PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION Mayor Buchan welcomed the members of the Park and Recreation Commission. Park and Recreation Commission Chairman Slusser described the goals and purpose of the Commission. Vice Chairperson Davis described the Commission's focus and objectives, including Red Morton Center, youth programs, Redwood Shores facilities, maintenance programs and public awareness of parks and programs. Commissioner Nordness described current programs, history of parks and the concern regarding overuse of existing facilities. Commissioner Swope presented a report on Union Cemetery. Vice Chairperson Davis spoke to the issues of a golf driving range, the heritage tree appeals program, playground facilities requests and the proposed trial program allowing dogs in certain areas of the parks. Commissioner Howard presented a report on the proposals for Red Morton Center. Parks, Recreation and Community Services Director Griffiths presented an update on the Redwood ShoreslBelmont School site and facilities proposals. Councilman Claire led the discussion on controlling unauthorized use of recreation fields. Councilwoman La Berge led the discussion regarding commitment to youth activities. B. ARCHITECTURAL AND PRE-DESIGN SERVICES FOR RED MORTON CENTER REPORT: Community Development Director and Parks, Recreation and Community Services Director, January 20, 1993 Parks, Recreation and Community Services Director Griffiths provided a detailed background on the pre-design/feasibility study process for the Red Morton Center Project, and introduced Mark Schatz, Project Manager and Vice President of Bull, Stockwell and Allen, the firm being recommended by the selection committee to do the study.
