B. Councilman Greenalch reported on the state budget and cuts estimates
provided by City Manager Everett, and requested that Council schedule a
discussion on how best to disseminate this information to all the
citizens in Redwood City. Councilman Greenalch advised that the state
had reduced the City's budget by over $3 million to date, and the
cumulative effect might be $5 million by the end of the summer; and,
Redwood City citizens should be made aware of this and encouraged to
contact their state legislators and the governor and let them know how
they feel and what should be done.
CONSENSUS: It was determined by Mayor Buchan to be the consensus of
the Council to schedule a discussion at a future Council meeting of the
most effective means to communicate information on the state's economic
proposals, the City and state budgets, and impacts on City services to
all the citizens in Redwood City.
MEMO 2/2/93
Councilman Greenalch advised that the City Council would be meeting at
an open retreat this weekend, and would be discussing this topic.
Mayor Buchan described the League of California Cities meeting she
attended with Councilmembers Steinfeld and Gasparini on January 28th,
and Assemblyman Vasconcellos' speech placing the blame for the
state's fiscal mess squarely on the Governor and encouraging community
involvement.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
2.
