Councilwoman Gasparini reminded everyone that the Sequoia Awards dinner was <br /> February 17th, and congratulated the three winners: BFI, Business of <br /> the Year; Pauline Truscelli, Citizen of the Year; and Rosendo Chavez, <br /> Student of the Year. Mayor Buchan described the letter that Council received from Kevin Reilly, <br /> of the Committee for a Drug Free Zone, Hoover School Area, asking for <br /> Council support in having marijuana included in the Drug Free Zone <br /> statute. (1004-05) <br /> Mayor Buchan referred this matter to the Legislative Committee. <br /> MEMO 2/9/93 <br /> ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <br /> A3. Council discussion on the best method to alert the citizens of Redwood City <br /> that the Governor and Legislators are, for the second straight year, <br /> planning to take away more City revenues and cause more City expenditures, <br /> in an attempt to balance the state's budget by shifting its financial <br /> responsibilities to counties, cities, school districts, and redevelopment <br /> agencles <br /> Councilman Greenalch reported on the cumulative effect the state's actions <br /> have had on local entities, and how important it was for the citizens of <br /> Redwood City to know exactly how their City services will be impacted. <br /> Councilwoman La Berge suggested the following means to get the message out <br /> at least five different ways: <br /> 1. Media coverage of this Council discussion of the issue; <br /> 2. Publishing a City newsletter in the Spring with the state's budget <br /> actions as the major story; <br /> 3. Include factual information in the water bills; <br /> 4. Hold town meetings in the neighborhoods; <br /> 5.
