REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br /> <br />July 25, 2016 <br /> <br />SUBJECT <br />FY 2015-16 and FY 2016-17 City Communications and Community Engagement <br />Program <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Accept the staff report and provide direction to the City Manager regarding FY 2015-16 <br />Communications and Community Engagement accomplishments and FY 2016-17 <br />recommended efforts <br /> <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br />This report provides a summary of planned and completed City communications and <br />community engagement activities. <br />On March 7, 2016, the newly formed Council Communications Sub-Committee met and <br />provided feedback on citywide communications and community engagement activities. <br />Also at this meeting, the committee members recommended that the City Council <br />receive an update on existing, completed and future communications and community <br />engagement activities. <br />On April 25, 2016 the City Council provided input and direction on the FY 2016-2017 <br />budget development and specifically provided comments in support of increasing the <br />City’s overall community engagement and communications activities. In addition, the <br />City Council reconfirmed their interest in receiving an update on citywide <br />communications and community engagement efforts. <br />On June 6, 2016, the Council Communications Sub-Committee reviewed and provided <br />feedback on proposed activities for FY 2016-17. <br />Community engagement programs have been a hallmark of the City of Redwood City as <br />an organization and these programs fostered connections between residents and the <br />City and among its residents. Community engagement continues to be a strategic focus <br />however these programs and services have changed over time as a result of budget <br />challenges and changes in city focus and priorities. <br />7.A. - Page 1
