During the 2015 City Council priority setting, the Council directed staff to increase <br />resources to support expanding communications efforts. Specific priorities included <br />developing a new government website, increasing the city’s social media presence and <br />a mailed city newsletter. <br />This report will provide a current snapshot of communications and community <br />engagement activities and while the report will highlight various current and future <br />programs, it is not meant to be an exhaustive list of all services provided. <br /> <br />ANALYSIS <br />This section of the report provides a summary of recommended activities for FY 2016- <br />17 (listed more fully in Attachment 1 of the staff report) and highlights of FY 2015-16 <br />activities, many of which will continue in FY 2016-17. <br /> <br /> <br />Recommended Citywide Community Engagement Strategies and Tactics <br />FY 2016-2017 <br /> <br />Neighborhood Engagement <br />Strategies proposed for FY 2016-17 year include re-engaging the Neighborhood <br />Associations through an annual presidents meeting with the Mayor and Vice Mayor; <br />providing meeting location support; Mayor, Vice Mayor and City Council Members <br />attending various neighborhood association meetings throughout the year; and <br />exploration of new neighborhood associations. In addition, staff is proposing to expand <br />existing neighborhood association leadership to support the longevity of associations by <br />leveraging current community engagement programs and matching up volunteers with <br />each neighborhood association. <br />Staff proposes a number of tactics to expand face to face meeting opportunities and <br />strengthen community relationships through revamping the Neighborhood Watch <br />program; elevating National Night out neighborhood organized events; relaunching the <br />Neighborhood Liaison program; and hosting an annual faith community stakeholder <br />meeting. <br />Other strategies will be to create small, informal meet and greet opportunities to hear <br />from the community including hosting two Town Hall meetings and an open house to <br />welcome new downtown community members to the Redwood City community. <br /> <br />Youth Engagement <br />7.A. - Page 2
