· In 2016, managed two BCC recruitments for 28 seats on vacant or expired seats · In partnership with the City Manager’s Office, launched a communications and community engagement effort in support of AB 2028- the County of San Mateo Mail-In Ballot Initiative where staff and a consultant reached 2,000 community members through attending events, presenting to groups, and distributing materials · Led one Town Hall meeting in April 2015 welcoming 30 attendees · Hosted One Town Hall meeting in May 2016 at Mt. Carmel involving 50 attendees · In partnership with the City Manager’s Office, supported the 2016 State of the City Address where 25 people attended Community Development Department The Community Development Department conducts public hearings, community meetings, and surveys to solicit input on proposed development projects, roadwork, traffic calming measures and traffic studies. The Department also provides updates on development projects on the City’s website. The Department also now offers an online tool to search planning and permit applications and subscription is available to receive updates by neighborhood. This new tool is called buildingeye. Almost all activities of the Department involve some level of community engagement. A few select case studies are listed below to highlight the different types of community engagement tools the Department utilizes to increase community participation in the decision-making process. Bradford Housing Site Engagement In early 2015, the City Council approved the issuance of a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the development of affordable housing on the city owned land commonly known as the Bradford Site. An RFP was published in June 2015 and on August 31, 2015 the City received seven proposals from developers. The proposals ranged from 56 to 137 units of housing affordable to extremely low and very low-income households. A public preview of the development proposals was provided to Council and the community in a special Study Session on October 26, 2015. The Council decided to form a Bradford Evaluation Ad Hoc Committee to review proposals and prepare a selection process. The Ad Hoc Committee appointment included three Council members (Seybert, Bain and Aguirre), the Chair of the Planning Commission, the Chair of the Housing and Human Concerns Committee and the Vice Chair of the Senior Affairs Commission. The Committee met multiple times over a three month period to conduct public hearings and heard presentations from each of the development teams.
