Lectures were held at a local business as part of their company’s lunch time <br />speaking series with approximately 75 employees in attendance, and at Home Owners <br />Association meetings with 25 members attending. <br /> <br />Community Outreach <br />The Department provides water conservation and recycled water program information at <br />Redwood City sponsored events and facilities. In addition staff also hosted tables at <br />local community events and businesses, such as the 4th of July Festival, and several <br />Earth Day events. In total, conservation staff hosted 15 community outreach events in <br />2015, reaching well over a 1,000 people. <br /> <br />Water Efficient Landscape Classes <br />These classes introduce homeowners, commercial property managers, landscape <br />service providers, and others to the concepts of water-efficient and sustainable <br />landscaping. The Water Efficient Garden Series is co-sponsored with BAWSCA <br />Redwood City hosted eight classes, in total there were 151 participants in attendance. <br /> <br />Water Conservation Poster Contest <br />All public and private schools within Redwood City are invited to participate in an annual <br />Water Conservation Poster Contest. Post classroom presentations reinforce the poster <br />contest concepts related to the theme. Conservation Staff presented at 7 schools, 20 <br />classrooms and reached 584 students. <br /> <br />Water Conservation School Assembly Program <br />Earthcapades assembly program uses an interactive and fun approach to teach <br />students about the importance of water and how to conserve it. Redwood City and <br />BAWSCA co-sponsored 20 shows at 12 schools, reaching 5,670 students. <br /> <br /> <br />ALTERNATIVES <br />The City Council can recommend adjustments to the proposed activities for FY 2016- <br />17. <br />FISCAL IMPACT <br />The adopted Fiscal Year 2016-2017 budget provides ongoing funding recommendations <br />to support these overall initiatives. <br />ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW <br />This activity is not a project under CEQA as defined in CEQA Guidelines, section <br />15378, because it has no potential for resulting in either a direct or foreseeable physical <br />change in the environment. <br />7.A. - Page 16
