175 City Engineer Jain stated that they had written a letter but they have not received any answer to date. Mr. Jain stated that they have agreed on a location. Mayor Royer asked Mr. Jain to check into this matter. Councilman Granger asked for a report about a year ago in reference to No Left Turns on Jefferson and Middlefield . He said he wanted a report on this. He also brought up the matter of Marsh Road. Mayor Royer referred this to the Traffic Fact Finding Committee, City Engineer Jain stated that there wasn't any method of signing !^' the streets from Bayshore. Councilman Stout stated that there wasn't any sign or anything stating that the Veterans Memorial Building was a memorial building. He moved that something, perhaps a sign or placque, should be made so that the people could see how and why this building was allowed, seconded by Councilman Weiss who asked that this be referred to the Commission, the placque to be placed in a suitable plane in the building. Motion carried. POO USE PERMITS GRANTED BY THE PLANNING COMMISSION: 1. To G. R. Palmquist to reinstate a non -conforming rental unit at 6114 Crompton subject to condition that permit expires on transfer of property. 2. Oddstad Homes, for a free-standing sign at 1718 Broadway. 3. Signal Oil Company, to re-establish bulk storage destroyed by fire at portion of Lot 4, Hill Knolls Tract. 4. Algiers Restaurant, for a free-standing sign on E1 Camino Real. Held, Pastor First Congregational Church, ON ROLL CALL the following were noted present: Councilmen Floyd D. Granger, Sidney D. Herkner, Robert V. Spillers, Hiram S. Stout, Louis Weiss, Mayor Royer and City Clerk R. S. Dodge. Councilman Britschgi was noted absent. Also present were Glenn M. Jain, Fire Chief J. L. Lodi, Water Superintendent H. L. Winter, Building Inspector S. H. Kreiss, Assistant Water Superintendent WarrenyMitchell, City Collector Paul E. Perrin, Acting Police Chief Theodore Moudakas, Fire Marshal George Asvos, Assessor -Auditor John J. Brophy, Chamber of Commerce representative Bud Stephenson, Planning Commissioners Carl Sjoberg and Vincent Rambo, Account - Clerk Vivian Holmquist, Assistant to City Manager L. A. Kimball. The minutes of May 21 and May 28 were approved as mailed on motion of Councilman SpiAers, seconded by Councilman Granger and carried. %"'r APPOINTMENT OF VINCENT RAMBO TO THE PLANNING COMMISSION. The Clerk swore in Vincent Rambo as a member of the Planning Commission. Mayor Royer extended his congratulations. PERSONAL APPEARANCE, K. B. TOKNE REGARDING PAVING OF BEECH STREET FROM MAIN STREET TO EL CAMINO REAL. Mr. Towne .w• stated that there are only five property owners in the two blocks that they are asking to be paved. These property owners have agreed to have the work done and will pay cash for the work. This would mean that they did not want any of the assessments to go to bond. He stated further that he had hoped to have the money tonight but he had not been able to contact all the property owners to get the money. Mr. Towne submitted a letter advising the Council that they want to proceed with the paving of Beech Street between E1 Camino Real and Main Street. Mr. Towne further stated in his letter that they would appreciate having the Council immediately set up the necessary procedure for calling for bids on the job in accordance with plans and
